Makeup Bag Monday #2

Last week I started Makeup Bag Monday - inspired by Serein Wu's series- on my blog and YouTube channel.

Makeup Bag Week 1

All of the items I've used this past week were drugstore.

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Dark Spot Correcting Primer $8

This definitely doesn't correct my stubborn dark spots, but I love that it provides a boost of hydration and radiance before my foundation.

Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Fresh Complexion Foundation $9

I've been searching for a holy grail drugstore foundation and it was hiding in my makeup collection all along. This provides a medium buildable coverage and a natural finish. This oil-free foundation wears all day if you set it with a powder and its extremely affordable too!

Superstay Better Skin Concealer by Maybelline $9

I wish I could love this, its long-wearing, full coverage, and doesn't crease under my eyes, Unfortunately the deepest shade (deep) is still too light for my taste so I can't wear it without adding some contour to counter the intense highlighting. If this is available in a shade that matches your skin tone I would recommend it.

Catrice Velvet Matt Eyeshadow- Al Burgundy (no longer available) $2

This is a lovely eyeshadow! Not at all powdery or stiff, its a perfect texture, easily blendable, highly pigmented and long-wearing. I'm bummed the velvet matt shadows are no longer available, but I will definitely be picking up more items from this brand.

Elf Smudge Pot-Ain't That Sweet $3

This was a wee bit disappointing. I wore this sheered put on my eyes and it lasted throughout the day without any major hiccups. Whenever I tried to increase the opacity of this cream shadow, it looked extremely patchy. I did enjoy using this as a highlighter, it has a purple pink shift which makes it a really fun/unique addition to my highlighter collection! I will continue to wear this on days when I want a quick all over the eye shade or a unique highlight.

Wet n Wild Megalast Liquid Lipstick - I Can Bare it All $3

This color doesn't look the best on my skin tone, and it tends to apply quite patchily, also it is extremely drying. Not a fan of this specific liquid to matte lipstick, I've tried others by Wet N Wild that I enjoy but this particular shade is definitely a miss.

This Week’s Makeup Bag

I'm in the process of moving this week, so I didn't want to commit to too much product testing. I do have a couple of new items to test out that I'm really excited about!

Melisa Michelle Ulta Palette Swatches and Review | #MelisaMichelleXulta

In the past year, there have been multitudes of collaborations between beauty bloggers and big brands. Although I love the YouTube beauty community, I generally avoid purchasing collab palettes because they are generally:
Too expensiveDifficult to findOverpricedLower quality  Despite my general skepticism about YouTuber collabs, I was quite excited to see that Ulta Beauty gave LoveMelisaMichelle the opportunity to create a multi-purpose palette.

This palette contains 9 eyeshadows, one highlighter, a blush and a liquid to matte lipstick. The retail price is $20 and it can be purchased in-store on online at Ulta.com*. Since there is a slot for the liquid lipstick, the cardboard packaging is a little bit bulkier than ideal. Despite the slightly thicker than average size, the #MelisaMichelleXulta palette is perfect for travel. It contains everything you need (except bronzer) for a full face of makeup! On to the swatches.

The highlighter (named Hollerrr) is technically a trio of three pro…

Covering Hyperpigmentation and Acne Scarring with Makeup

If you are a woman of color, you may experience dark spots as a result of past pimples and regions of darkness on your skin. I decided to film how I use makeup to cover my hyperpigmentation and dark spots.

Hatomugi Skin Conditioner decanted into spray bottle - I use this to hydrate my cleansed skin, which tends to be quite dry. It also contains ingredients which can help heal hyperpigmentation and acne scarring.Stratia Liquid Gold My current favorite moisturizer, Liquid Gold is incredible. Hydrating but not overly greasy, this thin emulsion has quickly helped repair my moisture barrier.Vaseline- I use Vaseline to seal in the moisturizing goodness of Liquid Gold and Hatomugi Skin ConditionerL'Oreal Total Cover Foundation Cocoa 312 This new foundation is semi- controversial, people either love it or hate it. I think it's alright, albeit a bit too matte for my dry skin, when mixed with the concealer below however, the coverage is perfectly full and the finish nice and satin (in b…
