Melisa Michelle Ulta Palette Swatches and Review | #MelisaMichelleXulta

In the past year, there have been multitudes of collaborations between beauty bloggers and big brands. Although I love the YouTube beauty community, I generally avoid purchasing collab palettes because they are generally:
  1. Too expensive
  2. Difficult to find
  3. Overpriced
  4. Lower quality
Despite my general skepticism about YouTuber collabs, I was quite excited to see that Ulta Beauty gave LoveMelisaMichelle the opportunity to create a multi-purpose palette.

This palette contains 9 eyeshadows, one highlighter, a blush and a liquid to matte lipstick. The retail price is $20 and it can be purchased in-store on online at*. Since there is a slot for the liquid lipstick, the cardboard packaging is a little bit bulkier than ideal. Despite the slightly thicker than average size, the #MelisaMichelleXulta palette is perfect for travel. It contains everything you need (except bronzer) for a full face of makeup! On to the swatches.

The highlighter (named Hollerrr) is technically a trio of three products: a peachy pink, a champagne, and soft gold. I think this particular highlighter is easiest to use when swirled all together- also it looks the best this way. When I first applied this highlight to my face, I was a bit concerned. It was too intense for my my super subtle makeup tastes. After misting my face with setting spray, I was happy to see that the highlighter melted into my skin and gave me the bold but not over the top highlight I was looking for. If you're into a super intense highlight you'll love Hollerrr.

Mahal is a gorgeous rosy matte blush, but the first time I used it, I had difficulties applying it to my skin! It swatched gorgeously but when applied with my angled blush brush, it didn't show up at all. After adding a lot more blush to the brush, I was able to get it to show up on my skin. Since that first mishap, it has worked well and for me- I don't know what the original issue was. The shade is beautiful and it works well with the eyeshadows selected.

Oh Scandy. I love this shade! It's a gorgeous pink nude-ish my lips but better shade. I was pleasantly surprised by Scandy. Since Melisa Michelle is much lighter than me, I expected her lipstick choice to not work for my deeper skintone. Not only does it work, but it's quite beautiful! This is definitely the most comfortable matte lipstick I own. I have a deep love for the Sephora Cream Lip Stains * but I prefer this formula. It does not dry completely matte- it has a slightly sticky after feel, but it is super comfortable and wears well all day.

These shadows are incredible! I will admit, the matte shades don't swatch well. Makeup companies have convinced consumers that the swatch is what matters when in all honesty, a swatch tells you nothing about how a shadow will apply to your eyes or wear throughout the day. If I were to judge the Melisa Michelle Ulta Palette on swatches alone, I would not be happy. Harley specifically, swatched poorly/ patchily; however, on my eyes it applied perfectly. These shades work beautifully and are not overly pigmented. I know pigmentation is a big buzzword, but sometimes eye shadows are too pigmented which makes them difficult to blend. Each of these shades blends perfectly and wears well all day long. The metallic shadows are absolutely stunning. They can be applied with a flat shader brush or your finger to get the most intense dazzling look. Despite being a metallic shade, Alana can be used in the crease to darken up a look just as you would use a black shadow. Best of all, these colors are cohesive and can be worn for a variety of looks.

5 Matte Eyeshadows (0.07 oz each):
  • Bing Bing (matte burnt orange)
  • Harley (matte chocolate)
  • Weezy (light peachy matte)
  • Rosemary (matte medium warm beige)
  • Tobo (matte taupe)
4 Metallic Eyeshadows (0.07 oz each):
  • Teresita (warm metallic gold)
  • Kades (metallic copper)
  • Alana (metallic plum)
  • Lola (metallic vanilla)
If you can't tell, I absolutely love the Melisa Michelle Ulta Palette. Each component is well formulated and wears well all day long. If you're looking for an affordable (20 dollars) palette to add to your makeup collection, I'd urge you to consider this kit!

Covering Hyperpigmentation and Acne Scarring with Makeup

If you are a woman of color, you may experience dark spots as a result of past pimples and regions of darkness on your skin. I decided to film how I use makeup to cover my hyperpigmentation and dark spots.

Hatomugi Skin Conditioner decanted into spray bottle - I use this to hydrate my cleansed skin, which tends to be quite dry. It also contains ingredients which can help heal hyperpigmentation and acne scarring.Stratia Liquid Gold My current favorite moisturizer, Liquid Gold is incredible. Hydrating but not overly greasy, this thin emulsion has quickly helped repair my moisture barrier.Vaseline- I use Vaseline to seal in the moisturizing goodness of Liquid Gold and Hatomugi Skin ConditionerL'Oreal Total Cover Foundation Cocoa 312 This new foundation is semi- controversial, people either love it or hate it. I think it's alright, albeit a bit too matte for my dry skin, when mixed with the concealer below however, the coverage is perfectly full and the finish nice and satin (in b…

Makeup Bag Monday #3 Stila, Covergirl, Kat Von D

As I stated last week, I'm in the process of moving this week, so I didn't want to commit to too much product testing. I am exhausted! Buying a house is a time consuming task. Thankfully, we've closed on our house (yipee!) and as of tonight, we'll be all moved in. As for makeup reviews:

Stila Perfect Me Perfect Hue Palette in Tan/Deep $39
Wowza! This is my first Stila palette, but it won't be my last. Every shade in this palette is highly pigmented, easy to blend and long-wearing. I am a huge fan of neutral tones and this palette did not disappoint. If you're in the market for new eyeshadows, check out Stila! This is my new favorite multi-purpose palette.

CoverGirl the De-Puffer Eye Concealer with Olay $13
I purchased the medium/deep shade which seems to be impossible to find online. I picked mine up from my local CVS but anyway, onto the review. This concealer is highly moisturizing, easy to spread, and offers a sheer to medium coverage. The metal applicator is …
